After much angst, discussion, trepidation, and more discussion, we finally decided we are going to be a:
Black Spider for Halloween!!!
I would show you the pattern, but it is actually for a Bumblebee. . .I'm going to ditch the wings and add a few (4!) legs to make it a spider. . .I think that will be a good choice for Halloween, don't you??? : )

You are so creative - I would never have thought to change the other costume into a spider!!! Can't wait to see the end result!
